#roxtails Someone Say Whiskey #TWSS Vendor Fair Cocktails
If you are wondering how to utilize your #roxtails ingredients from the vendor fair, and what cocktails to make with them…you’ve come to the right place!
THAT FOX!
This is such a crushable whiskey cocktail! This is one that will impress your friends, and may even convert some of your non whiskey drinking friends to whiskey cocktails. I originally came across this cocktail when I was browsing for cocktails that combine whiskey and strawberry syrup. This one was in a great little book “How to Drink French Fluently: A Guide to Joie de Vivre with St-Germain Cocktails” by Drew Lazar. This whiskey sour variation by Laurent Lebec of Big Star in Chicago gave me a big DUHHHHH! moment when I read it. The more cocktails you make…the more of these moments you have. It’s basically a whiskey sour that we replace part of the whiskey with St-Germain, sub strawberry syrup for regular syrup, and add some bitters to tie everything together. So, remember to always consider this approach when playing with cocktails at home.
Immediately after making this cocktail the first time, I thought of my friend, Alex Baptista. He loves all things strawberry (and passion fruit…and Brazilian banana…). Whenever he has a drink and it ultimately meets his highest level of approval, he will say “THAT F#CKS!” I thought to myself, “that’s what this cocktail should be called…but maybe “That Fox!…to keep it PG”. So, here you have - the video showing you how to make this delicious cocktail yourself.
BOOZY HOT COCOA
I decided a boozy whiskey hot chocolate mix would be the perfect idea for the #TWSS Vendor Fair…as I knew we would have access to Texas Charcuterie whiskey infused marshmallows and Yelibelly Cocoacino® chocolate toppers. This trio sounds like a gift set worth getting! This cocoa mix is made with Bensdorp cocoa powder - a classic European style Dutch processed cocoa. It offers rich chocolate flavor without bitterness and a creamy texture due to its 22-24% cocoa butter content.
I’ve prepared some hot cocoa in the video below, but consider this a starting place. You may easily adjust any of the ratios to your personal preference…more or less cocoa…more, less, or no whiskey…with milk (heavenly) or water…you can add a little more sugar if you like yours sweeter. I have spent a lot of time with many of you in Someone Say Whiskey…I know some of you like LESS sweet in your drinks, but some of you really have a sweet tooth. I mixed the cocoa with an amount of confectioner’s sugar that keeps it a little on the less sweet side in order to accommodate us all.
My personal favorite touch for Boozy Hot Cocoa is to add a little Tempus Fugit Crême de Cacao…and a few dashes of Portland Bitters Project Pitch Dark Cacao Bitters.
OLD FASHIONED KIT
This kit was designed to make one of your favorite cocktails - while getting to explore some new bitters (you know…I love my bitters 😉).
The video below provides the same process but with different ingredients…you will simply substitute your Rich Demerara Syrup and The Bitter Housewife Aromatic (2 dashes) & Orange Bitters (1 dash).
